There is no calculation that names the job you should have. What follows is what the tradition actually reads, and what we can and cannot count ourselves.
Classical Chinese astrology reads the eight characters of a chart from the day stem (日干), the heavenly stem of the day you were born. Each of the other seven characters becomes one of ten ten gods (十星) according to its relationship with that day stem, and those ten fall into five groups.
| Group | Ten gods in it | What the tradition reads into it |
|---|---|---|
| 比劫 (Companion) | 比肩 (Friend), 劫財 (Rob Wealth) | Force equal to your own — self-reliance, peers, competition |
| 食傷 (Output) | 食神 (Eating God), 傷官 (Hurting Officer) | Force you produce — expression, craft, making things |
| 財星 (Wealth) | 正財 (Direct Wealth), 偏財 (Indirect Wealth) | Force you govern — money, execution, management |
| 官星 (Officer) | 正官 (Direct Officer), 偏官 (Indirect Officer) | Force that governs you — rules, duty, organisation |
| 印星 (Resource) | 正印 (Direct Resource), 偏印 (Indirect Resource) | Force that supports you — study, absorption, care |
Each of the ten gods is defined one by one on the ten gods page. A career reading weighs which of these five groups is heavy or thin across the whole chart, and what the chart structure (格局) and favourable element (用神) are — no single character decides it.
The easiest piece of a chart to calculate is which ten god the day branch (日支) is to the day stem. A birth date alone gives it. We took 281 K-pop idols — everyone in our set with a date of birth on Wikidata — computed the day-branch ten god for each, and grouped the results.
| Group | People | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 財星 (Wealth) | 68 | 24.2% |
| 印星 (Resource) | 66 | 23.5% |
| 官星 (Officer) | 62 | 22.1% |
| 食傷 (Output) | 51 | 18.1% |
| 比劫 (Companion) | 34 | 12.1% |
The largest group, 財星 (Wealth) (68), and the smallest, 比劫 (Companion) (34), differ by a factor of 2.00. Split 281 people evenly across five groups and each would hold 56.2; the real spread runs from 34 to 68.
⛔ We put no reason behind that gap. With a sample of 281 across five groups, chance alone can produce this much lean. This is a statistic, not you — two people in the same 財星 (Wealth) group behave quite differently depending on the other seven characters.
Having counted, we checked one more thing. 99 of these charts landed on the opposite-polarity ten gods (Rob Wealth, Hurting Officer, Direct Wealth, Direct Officer, Direct Resource) — and all 99 of them had a day branch of zi, wu, si or hai. Not one exception.
The reason is how the sexagenary cycle is built. It pairs yang stems only with yang branches, and yin only with yin. So the day-branch ten god should always be a same-polarity one (Friend, Eating God, Indirect Wealth, Indirect Officer, Indirect Resource). Only four branches — zi, wu, si and hai — carry a functional polarity (用) that differs from their positional one (體), and only charts with one of those four cross over to the other side.
In other words, which group your day-branch ten god falls into has nothing to do with you. It is already fixed by where your birth date sits in the cycle of sixty. That is exactly why the lean in the table above must not be read as "K-pop idols tend to be 財星 (Wealth)".
⚠ This is the sort of place where our phrase "calculation, not judgement" earns its keep. Work the arithmetic and something that looked like a property of people can turn out to be a property of the character table. When that happens, we say so.
All 281 people here are K-pop idols — they already share one occupation. So this data cannot compare ten-god distributions between occupations. All it can show is whether the day-branch ten god is spread evenly or unevenly within one occupational group.
We do not yet hold birth-date data that would let us compare occupations against each other. What we do not have, we write down as not having — we do not invent it.
There is no calculation that returns a list of suitable jobs. The tradition reads which ten god each of the other seven characters is relative to the day stem, and infers disposition from which forces are heavy and which are thin.
No. You weigh which ten gods are heavy and thin across all eight characters, and read the chart structure and favourable element alongside them. This page measures only the single easiest piece of that whole.
These figures count the day-branch ten god of 281 K-pop idols, all in the same occupation. And the day-branch ten god is already fixed by where your birth date falls in the cycle of sixty, so no conclusion of the form "this ten god favours this job" can be drawn from it.
