What Saju reads

Saju (四柱) writes the year, month, day and hour of a birth as two characters each — four pillars, eight characters. That is why it is also called Palja (八字, "eight characters"). This page takes those eight and reads the chart pattern (格局), the useful god (用神) and the ten-year luck cycles (大運) the way Ziping Zhenquan and Ditian Sui set out.

What a date alone already fixes — the day pillar

Of the eight characters, the two for the day of birth are the day pillar (日柱). The day pillar is fixed by the date alone — no hour, no birthplace. So it can be counted for anyone whose birthday is public.

We counted 281 people

We ran the day pillars of 281 Korean entertainers with public birth dates through the same engine this page uses. There are sixty day pillars in all, and all sixty appeared among those 281 — an average of 4.68 people each.

⚠ This is a statistic, not you. It does not say some day pillars make entertainers, nor that a rare one is worse. 281 is a small number, and we counted only the people whose birth dates we could find. For a birth between 11pm and 1am the date can fall either way, so these counts are by date.

How evenly did the ten day stems come out?

The first of the two day-pillar characters is the day stem (日干). It stands for the person, and there are only ten: Gap, Eul, Byeong, Jeong, Mu, Gi, Gyeong, Sin, Im, Gye. We counted the same 281 people by day stem. Perfectly even would be 28.1 people per stem.

⚠ A 2.3-fold gap across 281 people is not by itself a meaningful difference. A sample this size can spread that far by chance alone. We report what we counted and attach no reason to it.

The second character came out far more evenly

The second character of the day pillar is the day branch (日支), and there are twelve: Ja, Chuk, In, Myo, Jin, Sa, O, Mi, Sin, Yu, Sul, Hae — the same twelve that name the zodiac animals. Counting the same 281 people by day branch, perfectly even would be 23.4 each. In fact the most common, In (寅), had 30 and the least common, Myo (卯), had 17.

The first character (day stem) spread 2.3-fold between its most and least common. The second (day branch) spread 1.8-fold — and that is across twelve buckets rather than ten, with fewer people in each.

⚠ We stop here. Why the first character leans harder is not something 281 people can tell us. These numbers go as far as how they came out, and no further.
