Mars Retrograde, January to April 2027: The Exact Dates, Calculated

Mars goes retrograde on 11 January 2027 and stations direct on 2 April 2027 — a span of about eleven weeks. We calculated both dates directly from planetary position data, the same engine that powers every birth chart on this site, rather than reproducing a published astrology calendar.
How often this happens
Mars retrogrades only about once every two years, each episode lasting roughly two to two and a half months — longer than Mercury's three weeks, shorter than Jupiter's four months. The mechanism is the same optical effect in every case: Earth, moving faster on a smaller orbit, periodically overtakes an outer planet, making it appear to move backward against the stars for a while.
What the calculation covers, and what it does not
We give you the exact date Mars's ecliptic longitude reverses and the date it resumes forward motion. We do not attach outcome predictions ("conflict rises," "energy stalls") — those are traditions layered on top of the astronomy, not something the position calculation itself tells you.
