A reader put the objection better than we could:

So if I'm a horse, and the rat year is my enemy, there is NO WAY that ANYONE
born in that ENTIRE year is compatible with me? Statistically speaking...

And another, asking the same thing from the other side:

When considering a love marriage match,
should day animals matching be considered most important?

The objection is correct. We will not argue with it. We will explain what the animal sign actually is, and what a practitioner is doing when they use it.

(1) The animal sign is one character out of eight

Your chart has four pillars — year, month, day, hour — each with two characters.
The animal everyone knows is the lower character of the year pillar.

 └─ 1 of them is your animal sign

So yes: everyone born in the same year shares it. Roughly 1 in 12 of all humans.
Any rule of the form "horse and rat clash" therefore sorts eight billion people into twelve boxes and then pairs the boxes. As a description of a person, that is almost no information.

(2) Then why does it seem to work sometimes?

Two honest reasons, and neither is magic.

① The animal is not meaningless — it carries an element and a season.
   Read as **one input among eight**, it contributes something.
   Read alone, it is a horoscope column.
② People remember hits. "My mum's a tiger and my dad's a horse — well-matched!"
   is memorable. The tiger-horse couple who divorced is not a story anyone tells.

(3) What practitioners actually use — the day pillar

When someone says "day animals matching", they mean the lower character of the day pillar, not the year. That seat is traditionally read as the spouse seat.
It is a better place to look than the year sign — but the same warning applies:

There are only 60 possible day pillars.
⛔ If your compatibility came from the day pillar alone, you would be sorting
   the world into 60 boxes instead of 12. Better. Still boxes.

⭐ The seat is fixed. Its meaning comes from its relation to the other seven characters. That is the whole difference between a method and a lookup table.

(4) So what do we do with animal signs?

✅ We use them   as one of eight inputs, with their element and season
⛔ We do not     publish "tiger and monkey are incompatible" style verdicts
⛔ We do not     produce a compatibility percentage

In short

The statistical objection is right, and any practitioner who cannot answer it is selling the twelve boxes. The animal sign is real input. It is one eighth of the input, and it is not the interesting eighth.
