Venus turns retrograde on October 4, 2026, and turns direct again on November 15, 2026 — a roughly six-week window (dates calculated directly from Venus's geocentric longitude, comparing its position a half-day apart to find the exact turning points — the same method used for our Mercury retrograde dates).
Why Venus retrograde is rarer than Mercury's
Mercury goes retrograde three or four times a year. Venus does it only about once every 18 months — and when it does, the retrograde period runs noticeably longer, around six weeks compared to Mercury's roughly three. That difference comes directly from orbital mechanics: Venus is farther from the Sun and moves slower relative to Earth than Mercury does, so the "overtaking" illusion that causes retrograde motion (see our Mercury retrograde explainer for how that optical effect works) takes longer to play out and happens less frequently.
What it traditionally governs
Venus is traditionally tied to relationships, aesthetics, and money you spend rather than earn (as distinct from the 2nd house's money-you-accumulate — see our 2nd house article). The traditional caution during its retrograde period centers on avoiding major relationship decisions or big-ticket purchases (especially anything aesthetic — renovations, major style changes) until the planet stations direct, on the reasoning that a "reversed" period is better suited to reconsidering existing commitments than starting new ones.

"Venus retrograde season" articles that don't give exact dates are hard to actually use for planning anything. Two specific dates — when it starts, when it ends — are the useful unit here, and they're what an actual ephemeris calculation gives you, rather than a rounded-off approximation.
