Scorpio season starts today, October 23, 2026, when the Sun crosses into Scorpio at about 09:40 UTC. Most zodiac calendars give each sign fixed dates ("Scorpio: October 23 – November 21") that are copied from year to year. The real dates shift by a day or so, and the signs are not the same length. We calculated 2026 directly.

Using the same Sun-position calculation behind our birth charts, we found the moment the Sun enters each sign during 2026.

Times are in UTC. In the Americas the same moment falls a calendar day earlier for some crossings; in East Asia, later in the same day (Scorpio begins at 18:40 in Seoul, 05:40 in New York).

Why the signs are not equal

Each sign is exactly 30 degrees of the zodiac, but the Sun does not cross them at a constant speed. Earth's orbit is slightly oval. Earth is closest to the Sun in early January and moves fastest then, so the Sun appears to move fastest through the winter signs. Earth is farthest away in early July and moves slowest, so the summer signs last longest.

In 2026 that makes Cancer the longest season, at about 31.5 days, and Capricorn the shortest, at about 29.4 days: a difference of two days for signs of identical size.

If you were born near a boundary

Because the crossing time moves by several hours from year to year, people born on the 19th to 23rd of a month can't always rely on a fixed calendar. Someone born on October 23 could be a Libra or a Scorpio depending on the year and the hour. The only way to know is to check the Sun's position for your exact birth date, time and place.

How we calculated: Sun's apparent geocentric longitude from the public-domain algorithms (Meeus) used in our chart engine, searched to the minute for each 30-degree crossing. Our March equinox time differs from published almanac values by under ten minutes; treat times as accurate to within about a quarter of an hour.
